the average cycle is 28 days but every woman is different. Once you start your period, mark the first day of your period on the calander discretely, then you can count 28 days on (that's when you can expect another one) but periods are often irregular for the first few months. The best way to get to grips with your cycle is to chart it on the calandar and you should see a patern emerging soon enough :)

The first day of your cycle is the first day of your period. The last day of your cycle is the day before your next period. In most people this is around 28 days, but my mum had a 32 day cycle, and some people have 26 days cycles. If you know how long you cycle is then you can work out when your next period will be, and know when it's late.

Unfortunately I never had a regular cycle until I went on birth control.

Everyone is different. When I was young...I would only get my period every few months and it would last around 7 days, the doctor said it was fine. Then I had my kids...and went on birth control for awhile. It made me regular but my periods were more painful and lasted about 6 days. I'm off of birth control now...and I start my period roughly every 24 days and only have it for 4 days...and no bad days!
