Guys! Don't be stupid!! She said "evenings". How can spot planes at night?!! Duh!!

Still you can do something with planes. You can buy an aviation radio and listen to communications between air traffic controllers and planes. You might need to learn something about the protocols used in such communication. You can find cheap books or magazines that can help. This can get you started on a hobby that can make quite a nice future job if you get hocked on it. Further, there's now available in the market a hardware/software package that you can attach to your computer and it will act like a radar. This way you don't only listen to captains flying planes while they talk to controllers, but you can actually see the planes on your radar.

Enjoy!!

Buy an aircraft radio scanner. This will allow you to listen to the pilots of planes talking to air traffic control as they take off and land. Just the thing for these boring evenings!

Alternatively
Set up a high powered lamp in your back garden like you see in war films and track a plane with it, then when you get it on a plane play an air raid siren really loud..its one way of geting back at the pilots for keeping you awake
