Do not use Desk Clean Up if you are unfamiliar with what a unnecessary file truly is. Ther is a high chance it will remove important and needed files that will require you to either restore to Post Clean -up or load Windows in the safe mode to fix. Thats why you can just download freeware that would remove these files safely without this threat.

Disk Cleanup is not to erase programs and data files. It cleans up the recycle bin, temporary internet files, etc. -- junk.

If you want to erase all programs and files and begin with a clear disk, use format. Be very sure this is what you want to do before you choose to do it and, equally important, be sure you have CDs to everything you want to reinstall.
