While I certainly have a great deal of lust for both marquees... in the end I think it comes down to the racecar maker versus the tractor maker. At least as far as one company verses the other.
Ferrari is, and generally always has been, on the cutting edge of performance technology. While Enzo used the street car business strictly to finance his racing, that changed when he sold controlling interest in the street car portion of the company to Fiat. Ferrari has the racing tradition, and the experience in regards to the combination that makes for a great performance car.
Lamborgini's are beautiful, but have generally been lacking in technology (especially in the chasis). They have always been more of a following in taking solutions used successfully by other companies instead of developing for themselves. On the few occassions they've actually gone racing, it's been somewhere between embarrassing and less than successful. The current cars are much improved thanks to VW's ownership and probably benefit from Audi's racing knowledge, but in the end they are not Ferrari and still need about 50 years of innovative racing success to be considered in the same catagory.
PS - the Enzo was not built to race, though there are racing versions of the 430. And while AWD does have it's plusses even when considering the weight tradeoff (but it might be hard to justify for cars intended to drive on dry pavement), it's outside of regulations for any of the GT classes where Ferrari competes, so there is little reason why they would be interested in this.

Many, ridiculous answers here. I would go with Ferrari. The new F430 and 599 GTB are fantastic cars, both as driveable in real world traffic as they are on the track. The Lamborghinis are fantastic cars as well, their relationship with Audi has served them well and provided some excellent all wheel drive technology. However, in Lamborghini's case, it often seems like the AWD/traction control is in place simply to restrain the car, rather than to actually improve the car's handling dynamics (besides just making it more neutral). Ferrari is the true pioneer of new technology, with their F1 transmission far better than Lamborghini's E-gear. Lamborghini has nothing as advanced as Ferrari's electronic differential. The 599 incorporates magnetically controlled suspension as well (forget the exact name of the system). Lamborghini seems to be more of a poseur's car as well, although that is more a reflection on someone who wants to buy a bright orange Murcielago than the car itself. As far as the Enzo being racing only, the previous answerer could look it up for himself and find that the closest to racing the Enzo has been was the FXX, which was basically a way for rich people to play "F1 driver."

"ferrari, because it has the latest in technology"
Are you crazy? Ferrari uses technology that is 30 years old. Ferrari still does not have a car in its lineup that is AWD.
If you know the basis of ferrari, enzo didnt intend for his company to mass produce street cars. He wanted to build just enough cars to fund his racing division. That tradition is still carried on today.
so your right, not everyone can walk into a dealer and buy an enzo, the reason behind this, is because ferrari has limited the number of enzos produced. An enzo and an f430 are two completely different cars. The enzo was produced to race, whereas the f430 was produced as a street car. Anyone can walk into a dealer and buy and f430.
All this being said, lamborgini is a massed produced street car, ferrari is a limited produced racing car, with street cars to fund its racing.
Now onto the question.
between the two, it depends on what you want. If you want to follow the norm, and have a status symbol that isnt unique, but has the latest technology, buy a lamborgini. If you want to follow the norm and have a status symbol that isnt unique, and has old technology, and has infamous reliability issues, buy a ferrari.
If you want a car that is damn near impossible to get, buy ferraris racing enzo, but remember, this is a car thats sole purpose was to race. You will have no power windows, you will not have power locks,, you will spend $50,000 to replace the ceramic rotors, and $10,000 to get an oil change.
