Would Jerome Bettis make a good head coach...or John Madden...or maybe some other offensive/defensive coordiantor from any other team?
Who would you like to see take over the helm of the Pittsburgh Steelers if and when Bill Cowher retires...Charlie Weiss of Notre Dame?
Steelers Prepare for New Coaching Search
Mood Around Team Is Cowher Ready to Leave
By ALAN ROBINSON
AP
PITTSBURGH (Jan. 1) - The Bill Cowher countdown began Monday for the Pittsburgh Steelers , who may soon be looking for a new coach for only the second time since 1969.
"I think he's definitely leaning toward calling it a day," Faneca said. "But you never know. He said he's going to step away, let the emotions set and get back to his family and make a decision."
The Steelers don't expect Cowher to make a decision quickly, even though any delay might cause them to fall behind teams such as the Falcons and Cardinals that are already looking for a new coach. There are two possible replacements on Cowher's staff in offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt and offensive line coach Russ Grimm, each of whom has been a finalist for an NFL head coaching job.

i honestly don't think the steelers are gonna hire anybody who's on the outside of the organization the only outsider might be jerome bettis otherwise they are gonna hire somebody on the coaching staff who knows the personnel like russ grimm or ken wisenhunt but i think jerome bettis would be a good coach as he's a natural leader and motivator and the players love him the only thing that hurts him is he doesn't have any coaching experience

I have lived in Pittsburgh most of my life and as well have been a big Steeler fan. Recently I have moved to Charlotte, NC and there has been a lot of big news about because he bought a home in Raleigh, NC. This is where his wife is from, this is where he meet her and where they both went to college at NC State. Recently the NC State coach was fired and no one has been hired as of yet. Coincidental, I am not sure but he would be taking a pretty hefty pay cut to coach for college vs nfl. But he once mentioned a very, very long time ago that he always wanted to coach for his alma mater. Go figure GO STEELERS Also did you know that it is very odd for a coach to last more than five seasons with the same team. I would say that he has done his time and it is time for him to move on for the next era to take place. Remember the Rooney's are not going to let just anyone coach the Steeler's. The Steeler's organization is the last organization that is not only still owned by the same family as day one, but that it never had sponsorship from a corporation. It is still just a mom and pop organization and I think that the Rooneys will keep it that way for many years to come.

The Rooney's are not going to bring a guy in who has no coaching experience at all. I like Whiz as the replacement, but my money is on Russ Grimm. He is much older and has the experience and respect of the players.
John Madden would never coach the Pittsburgh Steelers. Have you watched a MNF game? He harps on the immaculate reception every chance he gets. He still thinks he got screwed out of a Super Bowl b/c of that play.

I think that it will be the Whiz....
That is why Whiz didnt take the Raiders job last offseason...Cowher prob told him he was leaning towards retiring and Whiz seems like a natural replacement
As for Bettis...he may be a Burgh legend, but the Rooneys are not stupid and Bus has no coaching experience at any level at any position...He may replace Dick Hoak but he isnt ready to be a head coach
And Mora is a complete tool and talked about how he would leave his team in the middle of a playoff run to go coach his college team...sorry the Rooneys dont roll like that...he wont even be considered
Charlie Weis seems like he is Happy at ND and i dont think he would leave
and Madden is too damn old
I do however like Norm Chow as a possible sleeper canidate

I hope it's Ken Whisenhunt or Russ Grimm. It's hard to think of anyone else leading my boys,... But I am so sick of people saying he left because of money... That's bull... If so, why would the most winningest coach in the NFL stay 15 years for the same team when he could have gone anywhere and gotten more money??? If money was his issue, he would have gone looking for it. He wants a break. He wants to be with his family. He was one of the youngest coaches his entire career...let him enjoy his life... He sure deserves it! I love Bettis but he sure isn't ready to step into a head coach position. I sure hope you were joking about John Madden. Like he needs to waste his time coaching anymore. He just sits on his video game thrown and annoys Al Micheals... :) Just a little tough love there John!

It's got to be Russ Grimm. My criteria -
#1 Pittsburgh roots - Grimm is from nearby Scotdale
#2 Learned under Joe Gibbs and Bill Cohwer
#3 Believes in the Steeler philosophy of running the ball behind a stout O-Line and a smashmouth defense.
My biggest concern is what offensive mind will the find to replace Wisenhunt when he gets hired in Atlanta.
I do believe that Cohwer left because of money, and I cannot blame him. He defeated Holmgren who makes twice the amount of money. Don't believe me, watch what happens when Miami makes overtures toward Cowher. I hope so because I sure would love those extra draft picks to sure up our secondary.

I'm probably not going to be happy no matter who they pick
and you can't just throw a guy like Bettis into a head coaching position...he may be a born leader and all that, but as much as i love him, hes got no coaching experience at all
out of all the canidates so far, I'm liking Ken Whisenhunt the best

It will be hard to replace Cowher but how about Lloyd Carr from Michigan so the Wolverines can get a real coach!!

I think Marvin Lewis would be the best guy, but I don't think the Steelers would get him. That being said, I think Whisenhunt or Grimm will be the choice.
