merriam webster defines 'terrorism' as 'the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion" (i.e. getting people to agree with your agenda) http://m-w.com/dictionary/terrorism

now if you look back at the campaign which Bush and his handlers used to get "re-elected" in 2004 (nevermind the systematic and well-documented vote fraud and irregularities which lead to this slim "mandate"), do you remember how the Republican party chose New York city and 'ground zero' as a backdrop for their campaign? Do you remember the terror alerts (based on outdated 4-year old information) at the time? Do you remember how 9/11 was repeatedly connected to invading Iraq, even though Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11? (even though 85% of troops in Iraq were brainwashed into thinking the two were connected)....

It was the systematic use of 'terror' to coerce the American people into following an agenda that was harmful. Harry Belafonte was right, in my opinion - there is no greater 'terrorist' in the world today than George W. Bush.

a UN panel described terrorism as any act: "intended to cause death or serious bodily harm to civilians or non-combatants with the purpose of intimidating a population or compelling a government or an international organization to do or abstain from doing any act." See WIkipedia.

My definition is : to use violence against people who are less powerful or against disarmed people. I think that " Terrorizing sb" is not just by using weapons or power, because Terrorism can be done be words and threats. Actually, the only difference between "Violence" and "Terrorism" is that violence is using power between to sides who have the same power, e.g two armies fighting. e.g of terrorism: The killing of Nicaraguan civilians by the United States during the 1980s.

Is is a technique of radical groups to force others to their belief by using fear as a tactic. Usually it is because their beliefs are faith based and can not tolerate an opposing view. Any serious debate would expose the flaws in their thinking. The use of terrorist acts is to meant to paralyze the opponent with fear. To force them into silence if not submission.

Consider the amount of money that has been spent since 9/11 on homeland security, the change at the airports, the increase concern about illegal border crossing, etc. The ability of a few to cause such change in the way the majority of the people go about their daily business is criminal. It is an act of war carried out by an enemy without polictical ties to a single country.

It is the use of terror to break the spirit of the target population. The usual tactic is to kill and maim noncombatants in a random and horrifying way. Military are not targeted, because they are prepared for attack, and are the predicted targets in battle. Civilians, and especially the most defenseless, are attacked at random, so that nobody can guess when or where the next attack will be. A climate of generalized fear is produced, often out of proportion to the actual damage done.
The goal of terrorist attacks is to demoralize the population to such an extent that they can gain victory without having to fight and overpower the opposition.
An essential element in opposing terrorism, therefore, is not to succumb to the fear, but to carry out civilian activities as normally as is practical.

Lots of people say "One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter." This is a sign of ignorance and stupidity.

Terrorisim has a specific definition, though the people who support the terrorists don't like to use it. It is a term of art in the military and it has a specific meaning.

Terrorisim is the deliberate targeting of non-combatants for violent attack, in the hopes of creating enough fear and terror that the terrorist will achieve by political means what they can not achieve by military means.

It is different from "unconventional warfare" (such as commandos) because commandos target COMBATANTS and Military Targets. (Like the British Raid on the Nazi nuclear "heavy water' facility in WW2.)

It is different from the use of air power because an air strike will go after a MILITARY target, and occasionally hit a civilian target through error. (This is called "colateral damage".) The terrorist by contrast goes after the civilian target on purpose.

For example in WW2 the Americans would go after a German Airplane factory and some of the bombs would miss and hit a resturant by mistake. That is colateral damage. They wern't aiming for the resturant.

A terrorist on the other hand would be someone who DELIBERATELY goes after a CIVILIAN target on purpose, like a suicide bomber who deliberately hits a pizza resturant full of women and kids, like the Palestinians did in Israel a few years back, or when the Islamic terrorists went after the Beslan school bombing, or when the terrorists in Zimbabwe shot down the Rhodesian air liners back in the 70s.

The object of a military attack is to break the enemy ABILITY to fight, through the destruction of the enemy MILITARY (or sometimes critical economic) targets.

The terrorist is trying to break the enemy WILL to fight through the systematic comission of atrocities and crimes. The more horrific and spectacular the better, because spectacular attacks create more media coverage and more media coverage creates more fear. The terrorist plan is to create so much fear that the other side will give up and give the terrorists whatever it is they want.

A person or group of people causing or creating fear would be a starter.
A terrorist is one who causes or creates a sense of fear.
Until the Clinton administration removed them for the official government list of terrorist organizations,P.E.T.A. (People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals) was considered a terrorist organization because they broke into reseach labs and threatened workers.
Al-Queda is a terrorist organization that kills people and destroys property without warning and it doesn't make any difference if it is men, women or children that get hurt or killed.
