Do insects and fish have a soul?

I think that mamals have soul. But what about insects and fish? I can' find the answer!!! Pls, help!

No. When God created the earth, he made humans special. As it says in Genisis 1:27 "So God created man in His own image". He doesn't say this for anything else. We are created in the likeness of God. That's where our spirit or soul comes from.

If you were on a committee and got to decide who and what had souls, would you give one to a fish or insect. I an pretty sure the divine creators knew that both of these items, bugs and fish would almost always be food for a higher level being and there wasn't much of a thought process,they would not waste a soul on them. I know people including myself that hope pets such as dogs and cats have souls and will join us in the next life, but nobody seems to want to bring bugs or fish along for the eternal reward.

It depends quite largely on your beliefs. According to religions such as Christianity, humans have souls but animals do not. I personally don't believe in the existance of a soul, but that the concept is based on the existance of consciousness and the state of being self-aware.

That I can answer. Most insects and fish are not even capable of conscious thought. Ants are mindless automations, controlled by the queen of the colony. Schooling fish like sardines and silversides are enormous, leaderless groups that use a special organ in their bodies which detect electrical currents to act as a whole. Your average oceanfish, such as reef fish, live their lives doing nothing but eating, breeding, and ducking for cover away from predators. Insects such as some flies live only to grow, reproduce, and then die. These animals run off instinct alone. A spiritual person might say that they have no soul.

However there are examples of insects and fish that show signs of intelligence. Sharks, though renowned as single-minded killers, can be cunning animals that rely on strategy. Praying mantids are predatory insects that rely on stealth and surprise to catch its prey. Animals like this require at least a small sense of reasoning in order to function successfully.

Squid and octopi, while neither of these are fish, have been studied and shown to have highly advanced brains and shown problem solving skills. Spiders, not insects but arachnids, resort to clever ways to trick and catch their prey. Some spiders dig burrows into the ground and cover the hole with a nutshell. When they hear an insect walking past, they pop out from the hole, snatch the insect, and pull it back into its hole in less than a second. The nutshell pops back on like a lid. :)

None of these animals are said to be sentient (self-aware), but they can be clever. Whether that intelligence means those animals have some semblence of a soul is up to you to decide.
