the best thing to do is get measured. Nordstroms does it for free, and they have actual "bra fitting school" their people have to go to in order to be bra fitters! They are the best, seriously. Oprah did a show on it.. and something like 8 out of 10 women are wearing the wrong size.. so it would be a good idea to get fitted!
this link has a chart that tells you what size bra to buy based on your rib cage size. It is not what people think.. if you have a 27-29" ribcage, you buy a 32.. for example.

A means the cup size. A 12 year old might wear an A and a grown women might wear a C. As the letter goes up the cup size gets bigger. 36 means 36 inches right under your breasts.

the number is the diameter around your chest, right below your boobs(plus 5), in inches. the letter is the cup size (see how you calculate it on the site below). So one says how wide your back is, and one says how big your boobs are. Think about it, if we only measured the circumference, it wouldnt be exact: some women have a wider back, but small boobs, and some women have a small back, but big boobs.

first to find out your bra size you need to measure your chest.
The you measure your brests. Then subtract your brast size, and subtarct it from the meserment of your chest.
AAA: -0
AA: 0
A: 1
B: 2
C: 3
D: 4
The A stands for your subtracted number, and the 36 is your chest measurment.
