i am thinking of buying a linksys range expander for my wireless internet but have heard they cut speed in half?

They are only really useful if you also have a wireless card in your computers that support them.

I have those, they don't cut the speed in half. Their main purpose, is to be able to get a signal from a lot farther range then usual to your network

If everything is hooked up correctly, you shouldn't notice any speed difference, all it should do is amplify the signal, allowing for more range.
