It shouldn't be eliminated altogether, but should be made an elective, meaning, take it if you wish, and not force fed into the curriculum where you won't graduate if you don't take it. I would also add - "ginago na tayo ng kastila for 300 years, hanggang ngayon gina-gago pa rin tayo". The spanish did not do anything for the betterment of the Filipinos, so why are we still dignifying them? Sure they brought us Christianity - values, moratily, etc. We already had these prior to their coming. What we learned is the corruption the spanish friars brought with them, and to this day, the country is plagued by it. Ask if 1 iota of college grads in the Philippines are using the spanish language, I can guarantee, the answer will be a resounding "hell no!!!" It's useless, it won't make you a better person (unless you plan on moving to spain, or studying to be a linguist, and spanish is your major), and sure as heck won't put bread on the table or a roof over your head. Don' eliminate the subject, give the student the choice.
