I am going to Vegas next week and I am an avid photographer. I was hoping there would be some good scenic areas near the city to capture some desert photos. Thanks.

Red Rock National Conservation Area. Plenty of places there to explore and can be a photograpghers dream place. Next Door you have spring mountain ranch, otherwise know =n as Howard Hughes Ranch. he owned it, but never lived there. At the ranch, there is a bleached rock that resembels the mother mary and next to her, a cross.

otherwise, go up on the efiel tower, or stratosphere, for strip and valley shots.

Depends on how much time you have and if you have a car. Red rocks is a must. the place is awsome. If you have lots of time take a ride up route 15. Last october my friend and chose to drive rather then fly from salt lake city to Los vegas. I am from the east and had never seen real desert before. It was awsome. we made a hour stop at zion national park and it was mind blowing. It is the sort of place where you could just sit an watch the light change on the mountians. You can get great shots from the road or if you are adventuous check out this site http://climb-utah.com/Zion/index.htm . It is a little over a two hour drive.

You must take the short drive to Red Rock Canyon. It's utopia for photographers. If you are staying on the strip you can take either Blue Diamond Highway or Charleston there. It's about 30 to 40 minute drive depending on the time you go. If you have more time I would definitely head out to Valley of Fire. Both are so well worth the trip. Enjoy the journey.
