There was a time when older TV shows all had theme songs. That way, if Mom was in the kitchen cooking, or Dad was busy or the kids doing homework, they'd go running to the TV when they heard the theme to their favorite shows.

Then somebody thought, "Hey, let's get right into the show and get them hooked before they realize what we're doing and stop wasting time on the theme, because they might go change the channel if they hear our theme and we're not a show they're already hooked on!" So many theme songs disappeared.

Such a shame. I loved the theme songs of so many shows, even ones I didn't watch!
