Start by removing whatever you can by simply pulling it away. Now put an ice pack or a piece of ice directly on the gum and let it harden. (This can also be done with an ice cube, but be ready to clean up the water quickly before it gets all over the seat.) While the gum is hard, pull it carefully away from the cloth. You will have to repeat this process as many times as is necessary to get all of the gum – which will depend on how large the piece was to begin with. Expect to repeat this process at least 4-5 times, though.

There are lots of methods of removing gum. Cheap ways can include using egg white, lemon juice, WD40, peanut butter or freezing it. If the chewing gum is smeared all over the seat I would use vinegar as it breaks down the gum. Heating it can make the process work faster. I have tried this method on a pair of jeans and it worked. Might smell of vinegar for a while though.

The freezing answer is a good one if the fabric can be frozen wtihout damage (try it on a section of the fabric that is out of sight and unimportant first).
You can make the ice 'colder' if you put salt on it first (honest ! )
After it freezes, the gum should be able to crack and flake off. Just vacume it up before it thaws or you will have the same problem again if it is stepped or sat on.
good luck
