The sound is coming from the front of the car, and is occuring even before I move. It almost sounds like its a belt? Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like a fan belt, and as it heats up, it catches the pulleys easier...you can try a wrecking bar to wedge the alternator away from the main pulley, adding tension to the slack belt, although, a belt is a minor item in the monetary sense, and not hard to change on your own.

Sounds like an alternator belt, probably need to be tightened up or replaced.Because the alternator is under a full load, after starting the engine to build the battery back up after the start of the engine.

This noise is a very common thing with a loose belt and the belt will leave you stranded on the freeway if not replaced or tightened ((a loose belt can jump-off the pulleys and get twisted up on the fly-wheel pulley and stop the motor before you can get in the emergency lane ----fix it now.....happy new year

It is most likely a belt by your description. Get them checked as soon as possible.
If you take a bar of soap and rub the inside of the belt it will keep it from squealing temporarily, but you still need to get it replaced.

i mechanic for a living ,and own a shop,it probably is a belt, the alternator puts back what power it took to start it,,and that usually takes around 15-30 seconds for this to happen,,that's why it squealing on it,,it may have to be replaced later on,or at least tightened up some,,,its not going to hurt anything right now though,,good luck hope this help,s.happy new years.

yip it does sound like a worn belt of some worn bearings
most likely a belt if you know what a worn belt looks like then just look at them and replace the one that needs it.
if all the belts are great like new then it could be other things but i may be some bearings in something like the drive for the belts.

a high pitch squeel could just be an indicator that your fan belt (or other belt if more than one) is starting to wear out.. check the belt for any obvious cracks and wear..

Sounds like you have a glazed belt. Have it checked and replaced if necessary.
