problem: (3,5) and (6,-2). I used the formula m=y2-y1/x2-x1.
I get -2-5=7 and 6-3=3 = 7/3. The answer I get is 2.1. This cannot be right. Where did I go wrong? Thanks.

You are right!
it is -7/3
(just don't forget the negative sign) ;-)
or -2.3333

Slope = rise/run

Rise = y2 - y1 = 5 - (-2) = 7
Run = x2-x1= 3 - 6 = -3

Therefore the slope = -7/3

You dropped the minus as it is a negative slope.

Your formula is fine.

y2 -y1 = (-2 - 5) = -7
x2 - x1 = (6-3) = 3

Slope is (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1) = -7/3

Can also be written as (-2 and 1/3)

...

m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)
m = (-2 - 5)/(6 - 3)
m = -7/3
m = -2.33

-2-5 = -7
So, rise = -7
run = 3
Slope = Rise/Run
Slope = -7/3
