Im not very sure if I put this in the right section, if not Sorry.

Ok, this may sound dumb but, I was wondering if anyone knew if men here in the state of Pennsylvania can go on maternity leave along with the girlfriend?? Is it a law now or does the job he's working for (working with mentally retarded people) have to let him leave for a little while??

Serious answers please! Thanks!

i know that if he works in a big corporation or office that they do offer that now. i'm in kentucky and my child's father has been offered paternity leave. check the local laws and the family medical leave act (FMLA) can tell you more about what is offered.

Actually, different employers probably have different policies regarding paternity leave. I am a residency coordinator and we allow our residents and fellows a week off for paternity leave. He would need to check with his employer. What you may want to be aware of though as that often this is considered unpaid leave. Meaning, he can be off, but he won't be making money (unless of course, he has vacation/PTO time accrued).

I don't know if it is the same if you are not married, but I live in PA and my husband stayed home for a month with me when we had our daughter. I am pregnant again and he plans to do the same when we have this one. It falls under FMLA in most companies. It will depend on where he works and what type of coverage he has available to him. Like I said, if you are not married, it may be different. Good luck to you.

I am not sure about in your state but I know in mine they do, he needs to call and talk to the benefits people at his job. i also work with developmentally disabled people and I know how hard it is to cover someone, but if they offer it they have to do the covering for as long as they are required to.

not from there, but i know alot of states now offer paternity leave, have him check his work handbook if he has one, it should be in there if they offer it.
