Lawrence Roberts, who worked for the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) invented the internet in 1969, then known as ARPANET. It was a military project.

In 1990 it became public and the World Wide Web was created.

No, Al Gore didn't invent the internet, nor did he ever say that. The internet concept was first conceived in 1950 by a scientist named J.C.R. Licklider. In 1969, the military expanded that concept into something called Arpanet, whcih was expanded further and eventually became the internet as we know it today.

That's a very short explanation for a very long subject!

Internet was invented during the Cold war by the Department of Defense and it was known as "Apranet", it didn't get big until early 90's really though..
