Odd question I know, let me explain.

I have created a single player RPG game which I am about to send off to publishers.

Knowing how publishers work, I will need a back up plan - as in produce it myself.

I have got most of the details of production solved, however if I am going to be able to sell it to shops I will need a barcode so it can be scanned through computerised tills.

Problem is I have no idea how to go about this - can you help?

My company can create a barcode for you for £10.00 + VAT.

We can supply in any format you like, and unlike the "home-made" ones it is certified machine-readable.

Email me the details and it will be with you tomorrow :-)

I've been in the Auto ID industry for 14 years.
If you want to sell a product to any retail outlet you first need to register the product and get an assigned UPC number to your product. You can get this at the Uniform Code Council. If you will notice on any barcode on a product in a grocery store there are 10 digits. The first 5 are the manufacturer ID's...such as 12345 mean, say, Coke...the second 5 numbers are the assigned product ID...lets say a Diet Coke. So, you need to get a UPC code and then you go get a barcode font or software, etc to print out your barcode in a UPC format.

Hope that helps!

This IS an odd question. When games are made by, for example Ubisoft, they have the bar code on them scanned into each shops' database so matching up a sale with the product going out of the shop is efficient. The actual creation of the bar code is probably done by the printers of the game cases (and game itself). Therefore it will be extremely hard to produce them yourself! You will probably need a specialist manufacturer to do it.

There are a couple of ways to do this, the easiest way us to buy a printer that prints bar codes, they convert letters and numbers into bar codes. www.barcodesinc.com/generator/index.php
The above website was found by me on yahoo search, I just typed in barcode printer. I think you will also find some word processors will do this too, try Microsoft word, I think it also does this. I have used the printers and scanners that do this, they come with their own software. Good luck

There is a company that produces them, but sadly the name escapes me at the moment. I used to work for a magazine which was bar coded - every 6 months or so I'd ring up the suppliers and a whole new stock was sent to us for scanning and printing. Try Googling 'Bar Code Suppliers'. Good luck.

printing firms can offer this service although im not sure if all will so you may have to look around. look in yellow pages un reprographics and printing services.

they would usually print a sheet full of them on sticky labels. I wouldnt expect it to cost much.
