Can you name the original college bowl names?

All these bowl names are all crazy stuff now.....I know that there are more bowls than what there use to be, but what were the old names?

The list of the current bowls is at the link. Surprisingly, some bowls have been around for a while and have kept their original names (Gator, Sun, Holiday, Independence, Liberty, Cotton, Sugar, Orange, Rose, Fiesta). The Peach just changed its name but has been around for a while as well.

At one time you had 4 major bowls. All on New Years Day.

Rose- started 1902.
Sugar -started 1935.
Orange- started 1938.
Cotton- started 1937.

The Fiesta Bowl started in early 70's, but by mid-80's it also reached "major" status and was a New Year's game.

The BCS has changed everything. The non-BCS games are truly a non-factor.

You still have the Sun and Gator Bowl, but everything else has pretty much been corparate named now. Even the BCS games will still have the corparate name mentioned along with the actual bowl name.

I know the Liberty Bowl's been around since the 60's and is still called the Liberty Bowl...
The Independence and Holiday bowls have both been around for a long time.

The conferences get the money. For example, the SEC has 8 teams go "bowling" and 6 win. The money from those 6 wins gets pooled together and split up evenly among ALL the teams in the conference. The trophy goes to the individual school and put up in a display case.
