A subject that causes great debate. I have ridden to hounds many years ago. It was a big mistake. I saw cruelty and I saw human beings not worthy of calling themselves animals in the way they killed both fox and Deer.
When I was young we lived backing on to a farm. If they had problems with fox a farmer or two would ride off and shoot any they saw on their land. I have no objection to that. Now groups of wealthy folk ( don't let them kid you its cheap its not) gather in fancy dress, drink a few freebies and chase any sick animal they can.
To see magnificent stag so shattered and tired in a stream pulled under by baying hounds and cheered on by mindless baboons is not sport it is barbaric.
Super Ruper giving the Canadian perspective forgot to mention their sport is clubbing to death seal cubs that are a few days old. We have to realise if its not food leave it alone. Cruelty in any form is wrong but when it is organised by people who think they are intelligent it is totally misguided.
I have seen both sides and I would rather be on the animals side than the hunter.

Against! Animals are more 'Humane' than Man!
I find it sickening that anyone can kill a creature that is no threat to them, or they dont eat either! I'm not against hunting just 'Sport'
If a fox is killing a farmers livestock and he hunts it with 2 or 3 dogs it would be no different than 2 or 3 wolves from a pack hunting it. A full pack of wolves would never hunt a small animal! A wolf pack wouldn't be as big as a Hound pack either. The people who do hunt should be made to eat the animals they kill!
I wonder how many would do it then???

as a results of fact the banning of fox-looking, packs of hounds bred for that purpose are in lots of cases exercised via handlers who take them out on a drag hunt. there is not something in what you're saying that would desire to recommend that that's something different than that (if it became, it would not be one guy walking, it may be many human beings on horses with fancy jackets). If, whilst they're out interior the fields a real fox is stupid sufficient to get interior the way, there is extremely not that lots they are able to do approximately it different than call the canines off. looking is a planned and intentioned interest. it is not something which you'll be accused of in the adventure that your hounds decide for fox while they're out for a walk with a thoroughly different purpose. There are foxes in my lower back backyard interior the suburbs so i don't comprehend why you would be stunned to locate them in wooded fields.

Against.
Oscar Wilde said it best:
"the Unspeakable in the pursuit of the Uneatable".
The only rabid proponent of fox hunting I have ever met was the biggest tw*t I have ever had the misfortune to encounter - an inbred country bumpkin type with a massive chip on his shoulder who really was such a tosser I can well imagine that he got his kicks from spending an afternoon torturing animals.
Well I suppose it kept him from exposing himself in the bus station or drinking "diamond white" on a park bench . . .
Best punishment would be to impose massive fines on those who persist on hunting. Those well off middle class type are all as mean as can be and really resent having their money taken off them.
The fine money could be spent on wildlife charities or projects.
Perhaprs, as Rainbow Daemon says, we should substitute fox hunting for "chav Hunting". I mean, lets face it, chavs cause far more problems and annoyance than foxes do. I wouldn't mind some of the obnoxious little shits who live round here being chased down by hounds . . .

Long live fox hunting - and I am a Harrier, which means that on week ends, we take our horses and hounds out and hunt Hares!
Not that we ever end up killing any, the hares have got more chance of being trampled by a horse than killed by a hound!!
We have a local drag hunt near us also. They take a stag away on Friday evening and let it loose and hunt it over a neighbours land on Saturday. It is usually licked to death (!) by the hounds, it gets its headcollar put back on it, and it is loaded back into its trailer with a bucket of meal. Only to be butchered for supermarkets months later.
I have watched foxes being shot. It really is not nice when a badly wounded one gets away with a leg full of pellets only to die a slow and agonising death. Much kinder for a hound to put it to its end.
I live in the countryside and I have NEVER seen as many foxes as there are now. Someone should come sit in my kitchen and watch a pair foxes in a field of sheep and lambs. Some foxes kill just for the pure hell of it. They do need controlled.
LONG LIVE THE HUNT!

Canadian perspective here....
To spend a day on a horse is a glorious thing. And watching hounds 'do their thing' is another great experience. The actual killing of the foxes is a problem for me. I know that many 'fox hunts' now exist for sport...not killing. I'm all for that.

I am against it. Cruelty to helpless animals is abhorrent. Please understand, I am not anti-hunting. Responsible hunters kill the animal humanely and use all the meat and much of the hide. But hunting a fox with hounds just so they can tear it to pieces (and they call that sport) is just wrong.

If it has to be done, why can't it be done in a more humane way, rather than let a pack of blood thirsty hounds tear it to pieces.I don't know how any one can call this a sport,it's sick and barbaric.

I'm not particulary FOR it, but see no reason to stand against it. In a free society, people should be free to enjoy activities that do not harm or infringe the rights of any other person.
Fox hunting does not harm other people, nor does it infringe their rights.
I have a problem with people who seek to use the power of government to impose their social views by restricting other people from engaging in harmless and legal activities. That is the stuff tyranny is made of.

I was going to say spare the foxes and hunt down chav kids with the dogs instead, but the chavs pit bulls are doing that already.
