Hello,
(ANS) Happy New year to you!! Well the real answer here depends upon what your actually talking about? Are you refering to hard disk drive capacity (space) or as I think you are system memory.
**I suspect your asking about system memory, so I will try and answer your query with that in mind. OK! most modern PC's that run windows 2000, or XP or Vista (MS new version of windows) all require a higher minimum hardware specification for windows to run smoothly & to be fast and responsive.
With Windows 2000 or XP the minimum working memory is probably less than 512K but what this means is that YES! you can install windows on such a machine & yes! it will load but dont expect it to work very well.
The trueth is that actually you need 512K of physical working memory inorder to install and run windows 2000 & XP with any degree of satisfaction. I also recommend that if you only have 512K actual physical memory that you manually adjust or increase the windows swap file size (virtual memory) to a minimum of 512megs or more likely 750megs.
MAIN ANSWER!! is yes! if your planning to run MS Windows Vista or XP in the near future then YES! x1 Gigabyte of working or system memory would certainly help your machine to work smoothly & to respond quickly.
**The word improvement in this context is a little difficult because PC performance is a VERY subjective thing. One persons quick is another persons slow, etc?
**Obviously x1 Gigabyte of disk storage space these days isnt a vast amount but yes! it would definately be worth having, especially if you do alot of downloads like MP3 files or DVD type movies, etc.
Hope that helps, Best Regards
IR

Additional RAM will improve the operating environment meaning you can have more or large applications running at the same time.
If you have graphics intensive programs like games, you'll also want to get a video adapter with at least 128MB of video RAM.

If its RAM ur talkin about, of course it will really improve.
if you re talking about a graphic video card, it will also improve a lot.

I agree with keith. Depending on your CPU mostly, will 4GB's of RAM speedup a 600Mhz CPU computer?
Edit: jan is usually quick giving a stupid answer.

if your talking about 1 GB of RAM, it will help as much as the rest of your PC will let it.. You might want to research what a computer is and what it consists of before posting stupid questions that have no detail whatsoever..
