Why cant people have fun, isn't having fun justifiable enough? Millions of people saw the fireworks and enjoyed them, so that equates to less then a £ per person. Money well spent? I think so.

What fireworks? 1 million for fireworks is nothing compared to how much was wasted building the Dome.

I wonder the same thing every New Year...
Sydney did spend 4 million dollars on its firework. So we beat you.
But we don't have any money to fix our water supply.

Any money wasted on LARGE fireworks displays is a waste of money when peple are homeless and hungry. When as a society will we learn to think of others before ourselves?

One million pounds is very insignificant to the amount of revenue taken by the government each hour.

no they should have spent 10 million instead. i get sick of reading "Ah that money could have done that, or paid for 100 new baby units"
Its the governments job to pay for all those things.

Yes, of course it was. What did it accomplish? Constant frivolity while the world suffers is obscene.
