I was thinking of getting a hobby mouse to have in a cage around the house. Only thing is, I'm worried about any diseases they pose to humans, mainly infants.
Do hobby mouse bought from pet stores pose any risks to humans through infectious diseases and such?

Mice bought at a pet store are suppose to be free of contagious diseases. If the mice are not free of contagious diseases, pet stores can be sued and I believe they know this. Or at least should know it. If a pet store was to sell a contagious mouse, the state and county health inspectors would job in and do some SERIOUS INVESTIGATING and if needbe, close the store until the results are in.

Well yes they may pose a threat b-cuz many mice carry diseases that could kill some ppl but if you want a mouse for a pet then go to the pet store and get you one, mice are just as scared as you are some sre like a disease on four legs but mabe the pet store will have some mice that already been givin shots for any type of disease. Good luck mice run really fast!!! :-)

some mice or rodents carry the hanna virus which killed more than a few people in this country. not incuding other virus's insects and things. mice that are sold in stores are very clean and have a good history. a friend of mine wanted to give me a lab rat as a pet ( i don't like rats :)) and told me all about them. good luck.
