After returning from the army I found every other word was foul. My being a teacher made me watch what I said. I mash my finger or get angry, they still come out, but just think how crude it makes you look and sound when you curse and try to be the proper lady you want to be. Your friends have a big influence on how you talk and try being different and an individual will help. Don't follow the crowd, be yourself and be a lady.

The book of James, in the New Testament, says that the tongue is "untameable." We curse because we express the evil within our own hearts. Only faith in Christ can cleanse the heart, and give you the inner strength to tame the tongue. Read the book of Romans or the gospel of John and learn more about how Christ can be your deliverer from this habit.

It's all about training your brain. The most famous case I ever heard of was Harry Caray, famous Chicago White Sox and Cubs announcer. Harry grew up in a very rough neighborhood, and had a terrible problem with swearing. As he wanted to have a career in broadcasting, he had to find a way to handle this problem. His most famous expression became "Holy Cow!" I'm willing to bet that in his earlier years he had a lot of trouble saying Cow instead of something a lot worse. You'll probably feel silly, but find other exressions to use, and force yourself to remember them. After a while, you'll find it's not all that difficult.

The best way is to think what you will say and make sure there is no swearing and if you do you simply bite the inside of your lip, but not hard enough to break the skin, just hard enough to remember that before you swear again.

Mikki, it seems you know that you need to clean up your language, but certainly the environment is a BIG factor in your success. BUT, don't just make excuses. You know there aren't many men who like trashy-mouthed women. You know it ain't classy nor sophisticated, and you know cleaning up your speech is another way TO MAKE YOURSELF A BETTER PERSON.
I heard many many many years ago that the main reason people use profanity is because they cannot express themselves in English. THINK ABOUT THAT.
YOu have arrived with the speech you have because of people around you. So what you need to do is listen and read from those who express themselves without the use of profanity. Read good books, listen to good tv newpeople. Get into the habit of speaking like them instead of like the people around you.
Good Luck & Happy New Year

Cursing is a "habit"...
You must WANT to break this habit first...for YOURSELF!!!
Then you just have to MAKE yourself AWARE...each and EVERY TIME you say something "inappropriate" you must "hear it" ...and apologize (to the person whom you cursed in front of.).or even APOLOGIZE to yourself OUT LOUD (if you are cursing to your self!)
Cursing is like any other habit,...it takes a conscience "effort" to break the pattern...then you can "break" the habit!!!
It takes 21 days consistently to MAKE a HABIT a habit...
SO...
It will take 21 days of consistent "awareness" (that is why you are going to apologize out loud!) to BREAK a habit!!!
Good luck to you!!!
..you can DO this if you WANT to!!!

Try to boost your word power and insert rare intellectual words into your sentences. The people around you will surely be amazed.

You are like a computer. Whatever goes in comes out. Hang around Christian people or others who do not curse, people who would be shocked to hear cursing. Read the Bible and other decent books.
