I'm on a network and I know about those MSN chatting monitors like Messenger Detect, MessengerLog, MSN Chat Monitor and Sniffer, MSN Chat Monitor, etc... Question is, how can I know if someone on my network is using any of these programs to monitor my chatting activities?

There is no way to really know: they are completely passive.

If your worried about people snooping then encrypt your instant messages. There are tons of free programs out there that will work with your messaging program. That way even if someone is monitoring you; they won't be able to read what your saying.

Your not suppose to know, or else how are they going to watch you well. If they told you that your were being watched, you'd be good right? There are a lot of chat rooms and personal chats on MSN too, so they can't watch you guys all the time because the minute the monitor is gone or whatever, you go back to being bad.

Hmmmmm an open area chat room would not look to violate any rules that i'm conscious of. i don't see the wear in it in the event that they're utilising it to locate human beings to check out yet I doubt that they are going to capture all and sundry that way different than for the wanna-be's and the stupid ones. I unquestionably desire they are not dedicating too many components to this. If it have been a private chat room there may well be legal themes yet i'm not a regulation enforcement sort or a lawyer. however the legality of the government's strikes interior the holy "war On Terrorism" has ran throughout roughshod on civil liberties.

Well. Scanning usually and those tools in particular are
completely passive. It's like you just shouting out of your
window. Everyone with ears will hear it. And they don't
really have to do much for that. But that doesn't mean
there's no way to find out. I.e. if your neighbors invited
you to a dinner and you scream out of your trusty window
that her turkey tastes like old tires I'm pretty sure your
invitation might be revoked lol.
If that's an option that might work is impossible to say.
But it's the only one and usually also the easiest one.
If someone knows things he/she can't know it's easy
to guess where they come from. Social engineering
is like a trusty Swiss army knife. If everything else fails
this one will work mostly every time.

You should assume that someone IS "listening in" to your IM sessions and guide your behavior accordingly. If you're on a company network, you should assume that it is being monitored and recorded continuously.

There is no way to know for sure whether or not someone is monitoring your network.

You wont! I CAN tell you however that VNC software is used by many companies to not only monitor your online activities but watch your desktop and every move you make on the PC! They can see your passwords, e mail, whatever they want to watch! I know because I have it set up on my lan! I can also control my cameras at will from anywhere on the internet! I dont even have to be on my PC! I can take a week vacation and come back and fire up my screen capture software and see every move anyone makes!
TO ALLIE! Dont kid yourself! You aint even close!

Ask the network administrator or read the company security policy.

You should assume that it is. Safer that way. After all, when you enter a chat room, you really don't know who is there, who is listening in, or who is participating. They could as easily be a federal agent as a child molester.

What makes you think your chat is important enough to be monitored? What are you doing, anyway?

If it is instant message you can tell cuz the pad lock on the bottom is unlocked. that how it is at my work. if it is locked its secure. at work your employer can tell everything you do on your computer even if you delete it. Every single key stroke.
