I'm really sorry but a static charge actually distroys the ram chip, that's why it's so important to ground yourself.
Sometimes if you are very lucky the charge will disapate if you remove the battery and unplug for a few hours, then put the battery back in, and plug it in, and boot it up. But it's rare
A new ram chip is the most likely solution. And hopefully it's just the chip not the whole motherboard that was damaged.

If the static charge did any damage, you can't reverse it. The electric charge burned out some of the parts of the memory. If it didn't, there is nothing to worry about.

The only way to determine if the memory is bad is to have it tested. There's no way you can know if the memory was statically damaged unless you felt a zap.

Is it possible you got the wrong memory type?

You can't. A zapped chip is a zapped chip. However memory chips are already on a card when you buy them, and are much less prone to static charge. It is more likely you did not seat the memory correctly then it was zapped by static.
