I have always used antibacterial soap to wash mine, after I pat dry and apply antibiotic cream on it for about a week. When there is no signs of scabbing , I use regular body lotion ( I have very dry skin ) At the longest it should be healed in a week to ten days. The more you are out in the sun , they will fade so keep sun screen on. I have 10 and never once have I have a problem. The last one I got 2yrs ago was a portrait of my deceased husband, so don't let the name make you think I'm blowing wind. 62 and loving it.

they are right, keep it moist, use dry skin cream but apply very carefully and dont scrub, they may peal but dont help pealing by hand, this will happen for the first 2 weaks then you'll forget all about it, it will become as a normal skin

I suppose you mean when it is still new and sored?

Well, I usually keep them moist with the lotion applied by the tattooist for about 24 hours. Then I let it be like any wound, my tattoos still are fresh after almost 20 years!

Use A&D ointment or whatever the tattoo place gives you for the dryness during the healing process. It will peel. The peeling isn't good, but it's normal. After it's healed, just regular lotion is fine.

keep it under a bandage with 3 in 1 ointment for 1st week... don't scratch no matter what, and then just apply heavy duty sun block when exposing it to the sun... Follow this simple instruction and after 14 years your tat will still look like new... just like mine do.

I have a few and what you want to do is to keep that A&D ointment on it at first. Don't get it wet, either. It will begin to itch and shed skin but this is normal. I wouldn't let it "dry out."
