When inequalities are expressed like this, you can work with both at the same time.

Add 2:

4 + 2 < 2y - 2 + 2 < 10 + 2
6 < 2y < 12

Divide by 2:

6/2 < 2y/2 < 12/2
3 < y < 6

That's the answer. y is between 3 and 6.

Add 2 to all parts of the equation.
4+2<2y-2+2<10+2
6<2y<12

Now divide by 2:
3
So, the answer is 4 or 5. If you substitute them in the original, both work.
