I think intelligence is about the same as its ever been, however, ignorance, poor teaching in schools and apathy have increased ten fold. People want an answer here but aren't prepared to think about the structure and the language of their question and whats more, are prepared to put anything down as an answer. Therefore, it appears there has been an increase in the number of obtuse and obnoxious users at YA.
Personally I think there needs to be a Yahoo Debate site, thus eliminating pseudo intellectuals copying and pasting Wikipedia.
Right, rant over.

Those puppies must have endured intense pain at the hand of these children. Society should bring back the cane and punish these children and yes the cane hurts when it strikes flesh but it also creates pain and pain makes you know what it actually feels like.If the children know that their was a severe consequence for this cruel misbehaviour I am sure they would not have even thought of doing anything like this. I know I am going to get thumbs down but think about this why should those poor puppies suffered like this? It is our duty as adults to ensure children do not overstep the boundaries.

All over the world, it is the least educated that reproduce the most. There are almost 7 billion in the world, and that makes for a lot of stupid people.
The greatest fear of America’s Founding Fathers was that, eventually, the American people would elect politicians even stupider than themselves. That might explain Bush bring elected President – twice.

I think society is a lot less informed and possibly doesn't have the sense of decorum that used to exist. However, I don't know that Yahoo! Answers would be your best gauge. I imagine the majority of the questions that you think are from genuinely stupid people are attempts to be funny, at least I hope they are.

Yes, people have gotten more rude and more childish aswell.
The world is filled with stupid, rude people, that is a well known fact.
You just have to ignore it and live with it. Nothing can really be done. If you argue with a stupid person, it won't get you anywhere.
One of the causes to stupidity is laziness. If people weren't lazy they wouldn't be as stupid. Don't you agree?
Technology is making people lazier and lazier. Nothing can be done neither.

in answer to your question, no I don't think people are getting stupider, I actually think people are getting wiser in mind, but they lack one big factor; common sense. but most of the silly questions on here are asked by immature/ young people who doesn't comprehend how they are sounding when they ask these questions. with your examples:
Could I get pregnant? should be asked:
if I did this (heavy petting) could i still become pregnant? then it doesn't sound so silly.
