Its not the problum of ram.
It could be because of the format which you should have done before installing sp2 automatically when you boot from cd rom
You didnt specify your system
processor speed may also be a cause

It is common for the machine to work slowly after instaling SP2. To avoid this you need to turn off graphics of the operating system. You can find how to turn off graphics by exploring the control panel. For getting rid of other problems try formatting the Operating System and re-install it using a non pirated version. Good luck.

hello
1.whenever u reinstall ... do it after a complete format
2.use always NTFS file system
with block size nearly 8k or 16k during format
3.Install properly all drivers or motherboard utilities
eg: inf - update for intel chipsets and intelapplicationaccelerator
for 810e/p3 boards or 845boards/p4.
4.after installation... defrag both registry and host disk with
any free defrag application seperate for both purpose
5.dont install apps which installs background services and
use gamexp like free software to disable unwanted services in XP
6.Important:
sp2 is just 80% speed like xp_original2001 and 160% more secured, dont install any ram boosters or memory related applications and cpu cooling ones
--
if all that had been done , you will never need any more ram for 2 years

Windows XP SP2 installs additional services. 376MB of RAM is not enough to comfortably run the OS and your applications. You need to increase this to 512MB as a minimum, but I would put in 1GB.

I'm no expert, but if you are ready to reinstall windows, you might better format your hard drive while you are at it. Just backup all your info that you find important and wipe everything on that partition. That's what I do when my computer goes crazy on me. If that doesn't work then it's something wrong with your hardware.

you reformatted and reinstalled XP? as you cannot reformat an active XP install that is if XP was on C drive you cannot reformat it but you can reformat a 2nd drive while XP is on another if you did reformat and reinstall make sure you have the motherboard I/O drivers ( chipset ) drivers installed as XP may very well be in PIO mode and you want to be in DMA mode for all drives PIO mode is slow go to control panel----system-----hardware----ata controller---drives each drive should be in DMA mode
