If the 1st dimension can produced by a point moving through space (a line), and if the 2nd dimension can be produced by moving a line through space (a flat 2D figure produced-square or rectangle), and the 3rd dimension can be produced by moving that flat figure through space (a cube, or rectangular prism), then what has to happen if you move a 3D figure through space.... you must add time. Time is the 4th dimension and philosophically...patience is its currency.

Calling the 4th dimension 'time' is misleading and certainly not condusive to imagining it or describing it. The 4th dimension isn't time but rather controls time. Everything and everyone in the universe lives on the top of the 4th dimension as if we are walking along the surface of earth. But the more mass an object has the more they would sink into the surface and the more they sink into the surface the more gravity is produced. It is rather simple but just hard to imagine.

Think of the 4th dimension as in and out while the 3 dimensions is up/down, forward/backward, left/right.

I imagine you mean another spatial dimension and not time which is whats generally understood as the 4th dimension. I've read a lot about higher spatial dimensions and feel I've got a bit of understanding about what we'd perceive of higher dimensional objects but it takes a bit of study and thought.

I suggest you read 'flatland' by Edwin Abbott and 'Hyperspace' by Michio Kaku. You could also run a search for hypercubes, hyperspheres and tesseracts on the web.

We right now are in the third dimension, but we also have a fourth dimension of time as Einstein said. Our dimension consists of the x, y, and z axis and time. It also depends. Are you talking about geometric dimensions or spacial dimensions? Here are some links.

Current theory posits 11-14 dimensions. Read 'The Elegant Universe' by Brian Greene (Green?). Or get a copy of the miniseries with the same name that was produced by Brian and NOVA (a good library system will have it somewhere). Its great.

i gotta better one'what is the 5th dimension?'just joking.
the word "dimension"is been given by us...so let it b defined in our manner.the 1st dimension is defined by a point moving in space,2nd-by a st.line moving in the space,3rd-a plane moving in the space.now just try to imagine the plane moving in the space...what's it like?i know that's not time.but that dimension is named as time.now don't mix it with our time.it's another time, something that we still don't know how to define correctly.philosophers will say something, astronomers will, mathematicians will define it in their own way.....but one day we all will come to a same conclusion....and that day you'll definitely get your answer.so ....W A I T.
