All geometrical formula for area were derived by basis definition of the area.
Long time ago mathematicians were engaged in exercises of finding the formula of various shapes.
Area of any thing that is 'a' long and 'b' wide by definition was 'ab'
So they were taking a simplest form of shape and divide them in to squares and estimate the areas by counting the squares and then counting the 1/2,1/4, or1/8..... square and have quiet a few people or many students come up with the answers and taking average of the answers, they immediately recognise that, some of this triangles should be exactly 1/2 in case of square or 1/2 the rectangles, in case a rectagle if square and the rectangles were divided in to half.....
Some people also recognise that it looks like if they took only 1/2 the base and multiplied by altitude then they got very close answer that was close to the average, but most important was that it was exactly correct in case of square and the rectangle.
After testing it again and again they came up with this formula.
As the knowledge grew they were able to find the proof also, using calculus.

What style of triangle? to locate the portion of a suitable triangle, the formula is, A = a million/2 * base * top If the triangle isn't a suitable triangle, one might desire to not use this formula, or could desire to first spoil the triangle up into 2 or extra suitable triangles and then upload each section jointly to locate the complete section.
