You need help.
If the father is around, if you have other children, I don't know your situation, but you need sleep.
ALWAYS SLEEP WHENEVER THE BABY SLEEPS.
Let the housework pile up. You are worthless to your baby if you are not at your best, this can also become dangerous.

For the first 3 months I think I got 5 to 6 hours every night. However I got to lay down again for a couple hours. I have a great guy who helped out a lot and let me take naps if I needed them. Now my son is 7 months old and he sleeps 10 to 12 hours a night so I get at least 8 hours of sleep now.
Good luck and remember all babies are different. Some sleep all night from day one and some take a good 6 to 8 months to get into a sleeping routine.

The first 2 months seem to be the hardest with the least amount of sleep. Our son would get up sometimes 3 times during the night. I remember being up for 2 hours at a time when he wouldn't stay asleep in the crib and trying to breastfeed him enough. During that time, it seemed I would only get maybe 5-6 hours/night sleep. I would always try to take a nap during the day for 45 min to 1 hour, but that was it. Now our son is 4 1/2 mo and I get around 8 hours/night sleep, but it's not straight. Last night I was up from 2:45 to 3:30 breastfeeding. I guarantee it will get easier as your baby gets older!

I reached month 4 today. So... I would say the first 3 weeks I got maybe 2-4 hours of sleep. That was if I was sleeping when she slept. Now adays I get anywhere from 6 to 8 hours of sleep. It just depends on what I have to do after she goes to sleep at night. Beleive me when I say you are never alone. The one night you do get a lot of sleep you'll probably freak out and think something is wrong because you will be well adjusted to getting up. Good luck to you and Congrats on your newborn!

My baby is 4 months old and is just now letting us sleep for more than an hour at time. Every night with him is different. When we brought him home, he was up every hour on the hour, but he was breastfed, and breastfed babies tend to eat more often. Don't look forward to getting much sleep the first few months. If you can sleep during the day when the baby sleeps, its not always an option, but if you can then do.

My son's sleep patterns where hard, he wouldn't fall asleep till 11:00 and woke up every 2 hours at first then after a month or so it went to 4 hours around 3-4 months i started feeding him cereal and that's when he went to six, and then eight hours. I would just try and sleep when ever my son did. (which really didn't happen, there is always something to do) but to answer your question at first just a few hours (2-4) then eventually the sleep time grew. and it is always nice if your spouse helps on week end so you can sleep in or even take a nap mid day. good luck

I have 3 children my youngest being a 1 yr old little girl! I
still don,t sleep much through the night and im like a walking zombie some days. what you need 2 do is work out a routine set a time that suits you feed the baby then a nice warm bath and put babs down in his/her cot for the night with my other 2 it worked a treat and they slept from around 9.00pm - 8.30am every night with no bottles in between! my little girl only needs a min sleep and she,s up again full of life wanting to play she sometimes won,t go 2 sleep till 3.30am and by the time I get to bed its gone 4 to be woken again around 7am. give the routine a try it worked twice 4 me just try n keep babs awake till around 9ish

My daughter is almost three months old and I am still lucky if I get a 3 hour stretch of sleep. The first few weeks were hell, no sleep at all. You are not alone trust me.
Forget about house work, just grab the naps when ever you can. don't listen to people who brag about their babies sleeping through the night. They are either lying or really really lucky. you are doing a great job.

All baby's are different. If your baby was born at night you might have a harder time getting him to sleep at night. If it's due to gas pain, you can go to any health food store and pick up what's called gripe water. My son wouldn't sleep either for the first couple months and that's the only thing we found that would help. Also it wouldn't hurt to consult your doctor. He can give you some good tips on how to help with sleeping habits. Good luck.

1-4 mths =about 16-18 hrs
5-8 mths = 14-16 hrs
9 mths-18 mths = 12-14 hrs
18 mths- 2.5 yrs = 10-12 hrs
2.5-4yrs = 8-10hrs
more than 4 yrs = about 8 hrs " less or more "
