Who started there baby on cereal at 4 months? Did you discuss this with the doctor first or did you just give it to him? How did you feed him/her by bottle or spoon? How much did you give him at first?

I started for my first son on plain rice cereal when he was 3 months. Gradually, started introducing him to bottle food when he was four months and older. This takes time and indeed can be time consuming and messy too. My second son is 3 months plus and i am also feeding him rice cereal. He seems not liking it. But it does take time. Feeding one tablespoon of runny rice cereal is best, i feel. Feeding by spoon is best. My both kids does not like to be fed by the bottle. My Paed adviced me for my first boy (to feed at 3 months); so i am following the same for my second too.

I started my daughter on cereal at 4 months after discussing it with her pediatrician. I fed her with a spoon since the pediatrician said that putting it in the bottle can make it more difficult to introduce the spoon later and can lead to childhood obesity. My daughter turned 3 today and since then the American Academy of Pediatrics has changed their recommendation for starting baby food from 4-6 months to 6 months at the earliest which is what I did with my almost 9 month old son. I know that a lot of mothers can't wait to start feeding their babies baby food but I would discuss it with the baby's pediatrician first. Best of luck.

I never gave my kids cereal in the bottle; always w/spoon. I started my kids on cereal between 3 and 4 mos old because they still seemed hungry. they were not getting enough. 2 tbls of cereal runny at first satisfied them. As they got older, I used the same amt of cereal, just thickened it. No, I did not ask my doctor, I told him on my next visit. Just make sure you start off runny and don't force it...they have to "learn" to eat.

I started all 3 of my babies on cereal at 4 months. The doctor told me to with the first one, and I just gave it to the others at 4 mos. on my own. A doctor did tell me not to give it to them in a bottle though, because you are training them to eat foods and in a bottle you're hiding a lot of calories. Apparently this could start to cause obestity in them. I started them out with 4 tbls. of rice cereal and gradually upped it when it seemed they were not full or wanted more.

I didnt start till 5months, but some do start earlier if the baby seems always hungry. I found that the nurses always said to me wait till even 6 months, beacause they are still developing and its hard for them to digest.
If you want to try, make sure everything is sterile and start with just 2-3 spoons of rice cereal. They say its the safest in regards to allergic reation. And do it after their milk feed to start with, because they might refuse their milk and thats the most important thing.

i started around this time, in feeding both of my sons, you should start with rice, and a tablespoon for starters, we used a baby spoon. You should take it slow, one new food each week, this pace will allow you to detect any allergies. I just told the doctor what i was doing, didn't discuss it first, but they can give you suggestions and guidelines on when to introduce what.

I actually started my son on cereal at 3 months. i didn't consult my doctor. i just felt it was time. the best thing about starting them on cereal is they sleep longer. my son soon after i started feeding him cereal started sleeping longer after a few weeks it went to a full eight hours of sleep it was wonderful. it may also take some time for your child to get used to a spoon. and it will be messy. but your child will get it down in time! good luck.

I started all of my kids on cereal at about 3 months, no doctors, they tell you not to. I fed them through a cereal bottle and I fed them about 2 ounces in the morning and at night, they slept all night with a full belly
