Its a 40 hour series 2 Tivo. I took it apart to clean and i see its a
regular maxtor internal desktop hard drive, Im wondering if it has to
be formated, If it does how would you do it.
I have formatted hard drives for my desktop but this i dont know.

Yes! I have two 350GB drives in my tivo. Yes, you do have to do things to the disks first. See the Tivo underground for complete instructions for how to do this. http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=8
