Some people can just be ignorant at times, but now there're many parents that are very over-protective when it comes to their children, that's why they may not understand the minds of a 12 year old.

Bruno Bettelheim was a very famous child psychologist. I read an interview with him once, where someone asked him "why don't you approve of sex education?"
His answer: "Basically, in sex ed you tell kids of 10, 12, 14, or 16 that sex is Ok. It's not going to hurt you, you won't go blind. It's fun and gives pleasure and done with precautions, is safe. Once you tell them that, what do you expect kids to do?"
You wouldn't turn a 12yo loose and say, here's $500, go eat whatever you want whenever you want this month. You wouldn't force them decide at 12 what they are going to do with their life -Ok, drop out of school if you want - with no changing their mind.
Sex is similar - they have the equipment and tendencies to do things that can have lasting consequences. The culture around them bombards them with messages that were unthinkable 30 years ago. So, they know the "mechanics" of sex far more than 12yo's of 1950, which we all seem to think is where they should be.
Besides, parents always think of their kids as "kids", younger than they really are.
I don't think a 12 yo is in any position to make serious life-altering decisions. But, what can you really say to get that message across, other than "don't do it! You're too young!"?
Several studies have shown that the majority of women who ended up as prostitutes were abused when younger. It's not laziness, or lack of opportunity, but drugs and low self-esteem that cause problems. If you allow 12yo's to be active, how would you prevent them being exploited by older people? Even a 16yo is capable of abusive, exploitve behaviour with a 12yo.

Its purely because of the fact there mom and dad did not enable them to think of with regards to the alternative intercourse whilst they have been 12 so as that they think of its unfair that this generations 12 12 months olds might desire to have the skill to try this. purely wait, 3 moer generations and youngsters would be dealing with puberty on the age of 9 or 8

I think some people forget what it was like to be 12. If you remember what it was like yourself it's easier to understand what they are going through.

~We know they are dealing with puberty and hormones, but a lot of the stuff they go through is beyond a lot of our understanding. I have an 11 year old and it sure isn't easy. Teenagers are tough, anyone who says they aren't are crazy.~

People understand, they just do not approve of some of the things they do at that age.
