Story Summary: While flying to visit his recently divorced father, Brian Robeson is left to crash the plane in a Canadian lake when the pilot has a heart attack. Brian spends fifty-four days in the wilderness learning to survive initially with only the aid of a hatchet given him by his mother. He must learn to find food, to make shelter, and to build a fire. He learns to use his senses and information from classes at school. He has to deal with a bear, a moose, a skunk, a porcupine, and millions of mosquitoes. He finds out that he is one with the rest of the creatures in the wilderness. After a tornado raises the crashed plane from the lake, Brian dives in to get the survival pack which contains an emergency transmitter. After his rescue, he also learns to survive his parents' divorce and his knowledge of his mother's secret, accepting it in the same way that he has to deal with his own survival.

I can't remember enough to help you with a book report but HATCHET is an excellent book that I read when I was young about a boy who gets lost in the wilderness and has to rely on his wits to survive. There is a sequel I think. Try googling it.

It's about a guy that gets stranded in the wood by a plane crash. Great book! It's called the hatchet cause his mother gave him a hatchet right before the flight. (which proves to be useful later on)
