He asks what other major religion allows a man to have four wives? Only small sects like Mormons do and they are persecuted like criminals for doing so. Maybe some aborigines tribes in Africa, South America or Oceania, but they are too small to consider. Islam has the widest selection of women - about 600 million - just make sure she is not already married.

He goes on to ask in what other religion is it encouraged to beat wives when they do not obey their twice-as-smart husbands? You do not even have to worry if she is beaten too hard and she is disfigured; it is licit to divorce and marry as many times as desired. You only have to say "I divorce you" three times consecutively. It is even permissible to marry for an hour just for sex. Even when divorced, women do not keep your children with her nor receive anything from their ex-husbands, except grief. Another advantage is that a man can divorce his wife for any or no reason and does not have to tell her.

Larry L repeats a popular myth.

In fact, polygamy still happens among members of the LDS church, just so long as those practicing in it are discrete, but not a moment longer.

When the church abandoned plural marriage with the second manifesto, existing polygamists were granted amnesty by the government, and were allowed by the church and the state to continue living polygamy until they died. The last practicing polygamist LDS prophet died in 1918. It is believed that the last church-sanctioned polygamist died in 1976.

A Mormon reports the following:

"It's not really the practice of polygamy that is punishable, but the flaunting of it to the rest of the world. Course, I walk on the fringes of the LDS church, and see many things that are not evident to the more mainstream LDS members.

"Based on the polygamists that I have known over the years, I estimate that about 3% of those you see in an LDS church on Sunday are practicing polygamy."

Mormons share with Muslims their propensity for many wives. An ex-Mormon writes as follows:

"Polygamy and Mormonism are inseparably entwined. One of the most offensive aspects of Mormon-based polygamy is the rampant practice of taking underage girls as polygamous wives. This is precisely what Brian David Mitchell did when he abducted Elizabeth Smart. In the western United States, there are at least 30,000 people involved in the practice of Mormon-based polygamy. In these polygamous groups, the compulsion for underage girls to marry polygamists--usually men much older than themselves--is a part of everyday life. In these communities, girls as young as 12 or 13 are often married off to priesthood leaders. The most powerful and influential of these priesthood holders have first pick of the girls. Parents of the young girls submit their daughters willingly into these unions with the hope of being blessed by God in their afterlife."

I find it interesting that in your addendum you add a Mormon member once said... and then quote an erroneous idea inconsistent with the church doctrine. As if I said, a man named Adolf Hitler once said.. and then associate his belief with Catholic doctrine, or a Muslim extremist once... and tie some individual atrocious act to the entire Muslim faith. Another comment even says, an ex-Mormon once said... and does the same thing you did. These quotes are not credible and rather ignorant, don't you think? If wanting to know/understand the beliefs of a religion, why not seek answers from the source - that religion. Did you know the Mormon church has an official web site where these topics are covered in detail - lds.org? I would suggest that this is a good place to start.

They're referring to affirmative action. Some people talk about affirmative action as though every single black guy is under qualified and bringing in a ton of money, which is totally untrue. If that were true, blacks wouldn't be known as the poorest race, but opponents of AA overlook this inconvenient fact.

As one who's been a "Mormon" for some time, I must point out that you are dead wrong about my faith. We do NOT allow anyone to have more than one wife. Haven't allowed it for more than 115 years.

Isn't it about time we moved on?

I don't know what this is all about but it is really sick and no any normal man would not be looking for a "faith" that allows him to beat and torture his wife....

This is a good one for wife beaters, but not so great for battered women.
