I have used the blowing in the nose technique for years. Especially on babies when they get nervous. Most of them love it, but some get agitated so watch out. One horse I have owned for 8 years licks you just like a dog would. Not just your hand, but whatever you stick on front of his nose. It's so cute when he licks your face. : ) Horses will also lower their head, lick and chew, and just plain listen well. Which indicates they are content.

If you are unfamiliar with horse expressions and body language, there is a book called: The Horse Behavior Handbook. This will give you some information on horse expressions.

They most certainly can....try this with your horse.....when he/she comes up to you gently blow into the nostrils....your horse will do the same to you...it's their way of greeting each other. Some horses will let out a little snicker when they are content.....body looks really relaxed and some will even try to make some kind off physical contact with you. There are some great books on the subject...you might want to check them out if you want to learn more.

Yes, a horse can express contentment in different ways.
A horse that is content/happy will
1. stand with one leg ******
2. lower his/ head
3. close his eyes and/or act like he is drifting off to sleep
4. stand still with little notice of things going on around him
A horse that has just learned something new, or become satisfed with something will
1. lick his lips
2. heave a sigh, like, "okay....I get it...."
A horse that is happy around you will stand by you, watch you and act like he's interested in what's going on. Or he may be sooooo content with you he will doze off while you are grooming him.

Yes! The lowering of the head when getting brushed, the chewing motion they make, when their eyes are half closed with pleasure, the standing on only three legs, they show contentment all the time!

Yes, they certainly do.
Mine would stand in front of me and drop her head down for a nice scratch at the top and she'd let out a long contented sigh.
