Vinothbab, thanks for help,
the answer to your first question is, I accept there will be changes in transfer speeds from time to time, but for it to drop half, maybe you are right about this new ISP, they currently run a fair usage policy, (did not read the small print)
answer to question 2, I use no other programs etc, just IE7.
answer to 3, I run regular scans etc, update everyday, dont think there is anything malicious on system.
thanks.

Could be fair traffic shaping or the place you are downloading from isn't uploading fast enough.

You can check your internet speed at http://www.thinkbroadband.com or http://speedtester.bt.com

The modem should be fine, it woud work for 2meg connections but may have problems with faster speeds

How long ago did you transfer, if you transferred recently the isp may still be in the process of supplying the servic at their end.

Unfortunately for the speed you are getting this would not be classed as a problem by BT wholesale

There are many factors that could affect your speed. The number of users on the network could affect your speed, the time of day that you are downloading, and so on. Try the link below (or any of the other speed tests online) to verify that your online speed is actually in the range of what you are paying for.

That solely depends upon your provider, i have some questions to you before i can help you........

1. Do you exp the same speed all the time or changes.
2. Do you use anyother programs ( that checks for speed , or increases your internet speed etc )
3. Did you check for virus and spywares.

I would bet your problems started when you downloaded explorer seven. I think it uses lots of memory and I have just upgraded to 1 gig DDR ram and transformed the thing!!!!

The machine runs soooo much better now!
