If you want to run for political office you need to have $50 to $200 million just to fund a campaign. Politics is a game for the rich and super rich only; common people have NO chance of getting anywhere near it. So all 99.99% of the population can do is complain. No money, period.

You silly little girl. The reason why those people won't run is because they are well aware that nothing will change the govt. There have been so many people who have tried and lost their lives for it. The people who complain will never run because there will never be anything that will change. Once you get out in the real world and see how things work outside of your text book, then you too will realize how corrupt our govt. is. The only thing that will make all the wrongs right again will be GOD. You may feel free to run for office and please let us all know the "BIG" change you made. It should be about the same time hell freezes over. Thank you

I have run for office in the past and will probably do so again. For those of us who work for a living, the investment of time and money is prohibitive.

Running for office also sets one up for abuse and ridicule. A tremendous amount of courage is needed to get past this. Any imperfection in someones life will be studied minutely.

What most people fail to realize is that even if a campaign is unsuccessful, raising a voice and having it heard can still make a difference. Exposing the fools and their foolishness is the duty of every citizen who is able to do so.

If you do nothing else, pay attention and vote!

I totally agree with you. And to those folks that say that you have to have millions of dollars, I say "it starts at home". The biggest influence that people can make for positive change is in their local communities and in many cases it doesn't cost much, if anything, to run for office or get involved. Many municipalities have trouble filling spots on their planning commissions, park boards, etc. for lack of volunteers.

As FDR said in his 2nd gubernatorial address, "It is impossible to get better government locally if only 5% of the electorate participate in civic affairs two months of the year while the other 95% remain uninterested all twelve months of the year."

It's a lot easier to complain about what someone else is not doing than to stick your own neck on the line and try to be the agent of positive change.

Just because I know that a given person is a poor leader doesn't mean that I think I would make a good one, so I won't run for office. However, I WILL work to support the person(s) that I think will make BETTER leaders, and I will vote. Those things at least give me the right to complain if "my guy" doesn't get elected ;-)

I dont have 20 million dollars to fund my campaign. You talk about being in govenment as though its all fair and square. If Hilary Clinton gets in office next term, that would make how many years of consecutive government with just 2 sets of family?

Out of a country of 300 million. Do you think thats fair?

America should return to the British method of government which is much more fair and representative.

We are arm chair know-it-alls because we take the time to care.
Your type of question is the same as saying if you don't like our government then go back to (name your continent here).
It is our duty and privilege to dissent or support.
Have an opinion.
Care.
Be informed of the truth and let others know when they are wrong.

I agree to a point, but realistically who in this world has a totally lily white background. The media and opposing parties examine everything you (or your family) has ever done with a microscope and blast what they find out for the world to see. Many people do not want to subject themselves and their loved ones to such abuse. And I really can't blame them.

Have you seen how a political campaign is run?

You need millions, you need to get in bed with lobbyists and people you hate, and you need to have an ultra clean past.

Very few people qualify to run for office and the bulk of Americans would rather vote for corrupt career politicians than successful business owners or managers.

Americans are sheep...baaaaaaa
