More than 4,000 people were killed on both sides in 2006 including nearly 170 foreign troops. Of the 170 troops killed, 45 have been Canadian, including a guy I went to high school with, Mark Wilson.

The war isn't over yet.

But to put things in perspective:
Accidental deaths in the USA

About 3,300 people die from chokeing on something each year.

About 3,700 people die in fires each year.

About 4,000 people die from drowning each year

About 14,900 die from falls each year

Abour 43,200 die in automobile accidents each year.

It is a tragedy to lose a loved one due to war, but it is no less a tragedy to lose someone in an accidental death. The focus on the american deaths in Iraq may be a news item, but the real news item is wither or not the news media feel if these men died in a socially acceptable manner, like the accidental deaths listed above.
