well, you need to find out why.
Does it work with the door open ?
If so the lock is jamming in the frame and this will need adjusting.
If the lock does not move with the door open, then its either the door binding on the lock, or the lock internals.
Maybe the door swelled in the damp weather and is binding the lock in the door.
Maybe its broke.
Mortice lock ?
Take one of the handles off, pull out the bar, undo the lock from the door edge and slide the lock out.
Yale lock ?
Take the screws out from the inside of the lock mechanism ( normally 2 or 3 screws ) and remove the mechanism.
No B&W answer without taking it apart and inverstigating.
One thing for sure, don't force the key, that'll make things much worse.

the lock may simply need lubricating, go to a good store andbuy a can of WD40 now spray that in the lock. both through the keyhole and the lock mechanism on the doors edge. turn the key several time to lubricate the machanisum properly.
if this works job done failing that the key itself may not have been cut correctly and so may not be working as it should it may need filing down a little in places.
however as you say it moves half way this is most likely due to the door not sitting in the fram correctly try either pulling the door towards you as you turn the key or pusshing it away (depending on what the problem is). typically if the door is constantly slammed shut this can mean over time the door frame works lose and no longer sits true to its correct alignment so you may need a carpenter to just hammer the door frame back to its correct position then refix the frame to the building a simple job, that you could do yourself, all you need is a mallet to bash the fram in to place with an old bit of wood between the fram and the mallet so as not to damage the door frame (which would result in more money to fix). Once the frame is back where it should be try the door again if it opens freely great the next step is to nail the frame to the building get some long nails long enought to go through the frame and into the brickwork of your building they should be able to penetrate the brickwork to at least 1.5Inch and preferably longer/deeper.
now you may want some filler to cover the nail heads allow the filler to dry and give a coat of paint to the frame.
you can do the lazy way with the frame just leave the nail heads exposed. but i'd be inclined to do a professional job. sand down the frame then dust it to remove lose dust from the surface prior to finally applying an undercoat then two top coats of gloss.
I used to work in retail DIY and have forgoten more on home repair and maintenance then most people will ever know. so good luck and there really is no need for a lock smith for this job. it seems like an easy problem to solve. Especially if the lock turns normally when the door is not in the frame (open lock mechanism on the edge of the door exposed).
good luck. i hope your problem is as simple as just lubrication. but whatever it is it is an easy problem to fix. oh and should the worst happen and you need a new lock your local DIY store should have one (DIY store for our american cousins = Hardware store)

spray some WD40 into the lock first then wiggle the key carefully without bending the key. If it is a door key then try pulling and pushing the door a bit at the same time. Hopefully one of those things should free it up

flush some WD40 in there and leave all night and in the morning BINGO but it can be a case of juggling and if all fails either file key or get new one cut// keep at it and eventually you will win
