Well, if you mean mainstream Americans, most likely for the same reason Europeans do. It's cultural. As for Cherokee people, we don't usually have that sick fear of it. Although we don't WANT to die of course, it's seen more as a transition than it is a total end. And death is obvious because nothing (with the exception of cockroaches and Cher) lasts forever.

a) not all americans are the same, not all do make a big deal about death
b)that's the same with everyone, not just americans.
c)Death is the end of everything we have ever known...why wouldn't it be a big deal?

generally people are afraid to die. they want to keep going in life. even if there is nothing else to find. americans are to greedy to die. they dont want to leave their lap of luxury.after you have lived fully it doesnt make sense to be afraid of death. once you've lived you've lived and there is nothing more to it. you cant be afaid to die or you will live you life in a bubble. live fast and die young. if you dont take risks you'll never live but if you dont take risks you'll never die.
