The Ottoman Empire was fascinating...can you believe that it flourished for 6-7 centuries (and spanned a great amount of land area for quite some time) and finally broke up and became Turkey less than 100 years ago? In some way or another, everyone has been affected by the great empire--from Greeks to Indians to the Chinese to Africans.

In my opinion, they were responsible for us being in America today. You might know that Constantinople/Istanbul was a very important city in the Ottoman Empire. Before the Ottomans, the city was open to everyone and it was relatively easy for a merchant to cross Europe into Asia through this city. Well, the Ottomans were really strict about it and didn't let travelers through. That's why people had to come up with other ways for reaching India and China for spices, etc., i.e. find a water route to Asia. Well, Christopher Columbus didn't find the best water route, but he did reach the Americas. Yes, he did a LOT of damage and was a major jerk, and yes, the Ottomans were meanies for not letting people through, but think about it--if they had never been so strict, we all would've been in our home countries, civilization might not have been so advanced, and you wouldn't have met wonderful people that you've met in your life. I guess it could be seen as a bad thing too, but I'm sure if Columbus wasn't going to introduce diseases to the Native American population, he would've introduced them to wherever he would've ended up had the Ottomans let him through.

If you're doing a research paper or project or something, here are some great, credible sources that can help you.

I think they are the best thing since sliced bread. My neighbor had one that the top lifted off of but you could'nt tell...he went on vacation and put some valuables in there....when he came back, he saw that his house had been ransacked....BUT they did not find the valuables in the ottoman.

Besides that they are good for other bedroom activities (lol)....besides that they are nice to rest your feet on...besides that they look cool..besides that you can stand on them to reach places...besides that blah blah blah
