There is a need to use contraceptives because there are already six billion people in the world, and that's plenty! Most women have no interest in staying pregnant for 20 years of their lives, which is more or less what happens if no contraception is used and a woman is sexually active on a regular basis. I do genealogical research, and before contraception was acceptable in the U.S., families of 10 - 20 children were very common. With six billion people on the planet, there's certainly no longer any need to "go forth and multiply" to keep homo sapiens from extinction.

Are you serious? Humans participate in sexual activity for two reasons ... fun and procreation. Every time you engage in intercourse just for fun, without contraceptives, there is the possibility you'll conceive. Every time you conceive, the end result is the birth of a baby. If you practice that through out your life, and you're a female, you have the opportunity to become pregnant and bear another child every 9 to 10 months. Your family would grow to unmanageable numbers. You and everyone else would be looking for assistance, both financially and with room and board for their enormous families. The population would exceed the ability of our infrastructure to feed and house everyone and starvation and famine would follow close behind. Look at India and China right now!
Do you really wonder about the use of contraceptives?

We have far too many people in the world today. Most prefer small families and therefore have a need of contraceptives. Also condoms prevent STDs and in some rare cases where the woman is allergic to sperm, will actually help her get pregnant.

The word contraceptive literally means to "counter-conception" or pregnancy. No matter what other people use it for (skin improvement, hormone boosters, regulate menstrual periods, etc.), it's still is for me, just to keep girls from getting pregnant.
