I ran over a small log that I didnt notice til I was too close to swerve or stop (it was dark out). Right after it happened my car started making this really loud thumping noise..I thought it was just a branch or something off of the log stuck under my car but even after i stopped and put my car in park it was still making this loud noise..what could it be?. ...and how much will it cost to get fixed?

Dont worry I'm not driving it right now (its way too loud and embarrassing and I'd probably get a ticket for disrupting the peace)...I've parked it on the side of the road and I'm borrowing my mothers car until I can come up with the money to have it fixed

No one can tell you how much it will cost to fix it, until you know what is wrong. You need a mechanic to find this out for you.

Do it soon as something might have been broken loose and it might be dangerous.

The damage done could be as little as a skid plate(about 30 bucks to replace) or it could be a major steering component.

You need to have it looked at immediately, if something in the steering breaks you could lose control of your car and be seriously injured...

As for cost you can replace most of one side of the suspension on one side of a car for $1000-$1500 so at least find out what it is.

Your undercarriage will need to be examined. Potentially, there could be damage to your exhaust system and wheel axle apparatus. It is also possible that a piece of the log has attached itself to your car. Without knowing what the cause of the noise is, it is difficult to determine how much you will need to spend. With any luck, you may just need to replace some bolts.

Take it to a shop, it could be anything, but if it is thumping it sounds like something in the steeering and or wheels.
