Hi, I've heard that the first month after quitting the pill is the time when you're most likely to conceive. But what I'm interested in knowing is whether there are any disadvantages to falling pregnant straight away? Do any hormones etc have to work out of your body that may be harmful to your baby? Are there any stats showing miscarriage rate for immediate pregnancy vs letting a few months go by?

Due to the seasonal fluctuations in my line of work I'd like to plan the birthdate as closely as possible. How do I best optimise my chances of conceiving in the month that I plan to?

I'm 27, fit and healthy, but been on the pill for almost 10 years.

When you have just come off of the pill it is not the most likely time to get pregnant. This is because you have not been ovulating properly the whole time you have been on the pill, so when you come off you need to wait for your first period, which should be just after you stop taking the pill as this will still be a withdrawal period. Then you should begin ovulating as normal after then, so your next period will br a proper one. From this point it will be easier for you to know when you are ovulating and therefore making it easier for you to know when you should time things. However some people that have just come off of the pill don't even get a period for about 3 months as sometimes it takes a while for your body to get back to normal. So it is best not to start trying until you have had about 3 normal periods. But if you do try straight away and are lucky enough to get pregnant then, there should be no harm done to the baby from you being on the pill before conception.

It is very hard to time the birth of a child for when you want. Obviously you could try to conceive 9 months before you would like your child to be born but if you are not ovulating around that exact time then that is no good, and one month you miss getting pregnant puts the whole thing back by a month. And then theres the fact that not all babies are born on their actual due date.

Plus, it takes most people around 3-6 months to fall pregnant so you can start trying 3-6 months before you want to fall pregnant but then you could still get pregnant straight away, which would bring the due date forward by quite a bit.

Sorry about the waffle, I hope it helped a little though x

I was on the pill for 10-11yrs and got pregnant within 3 months of not taking the pill! I did not have a miscarriage!! You need to ask your obgyn your questions and concerns! I have never heard of any hormones that would hurt the baby after pill usage! To help get pregnant quicker, You should have sex every other day to optimize more sperm! And make sure your hubby uses boxers and not briefs...the heat from his body kills the sperm!!! plus, do not give up if it does not happen when you want it to!! Enjoy the sex and being with each other!!!

I've actually never heard that you are most likely to get pregnant right after going off the pill...and I work in family planning. And I've never heard of side effects to a pregnancy after coming off the pill.

As for getting pregnant, you may want to use an ovulation indication kit. And count out your cycle so that you know your days of ovulation. Have sex all of those days...and a couple of days before, too. Sperm can live up to 3 days in the vagina.

Good luck!

I went off the pill 2 years in the past. i finished the %. i became on as quickly as we desperate to conceive and then basically did not get a sparkling %.. I had my era you get in the process your placebo week and then my era got here 24 days later which became 10 days in the previous then it may've been. i became never a 28 day cycle in the previous the pill, i became on the pill. I knew my cycles could extend lots once I went off the pill. I have been given pregnant the subsequent cycle. i could recommend waiting a cycle to be sure each and every thing is working high-quality without the pill and then start up attempting to conceive. If the bleeding keeps then it somewhat is probably your era. The cramps I had after going off the pill have been the worst that they had ever been in my existence. even inspite of the shown fact that it did get extra helpful with each and each cycle I had. Ovulation tests are sturdy to have yet not continuously stable. I did miscarry that infant regrettably yet my OB mentioned the pill had not something to do with it. not asserting the pill could not reason problems with being pregnant. i became never advised to attend to get pregnant inspite of the shown fact that. sturdy luck.

Well, I too was planning on having a baby. I had my pd Nov 9, my ovulation days was Nov 22-25, I got pregnant my first time trying. I had been on the pill for 5 years and I am 8 weeks pregnant. So counting the day of your pd as day 1 until you get to days 12-15 when you are most fertile, have sex those days every other day and see what happens. It worked for me.

You are only conceivable during certain days of the month, 3 days to be exact. Now, going off the pill shouldn't have any effect.

It would be best to ask a doctor for detailed information. But the best way to ensure it is to have sex as MUCH as possible EVERY day for that month. You can never plan the BIRTH of the child tho...it could be a month early, week late, w/e. But if you are that worried about it, have your doctor put the sperm with the egg themself...I dont remember the name of the medical procedure where they do that.

i am also in your boat, i live in alabama where obviously it would extremely uncomfortable to be pregnant during the summer, i have been on the pill for 8 yrs and my dr said it shouldnt be a problem at all though it may take up to three months for the pills to get completely out of your system, he said all that it will do is possibly postpone getting pregnant till after they have worn off

See, everything varies person to person and so its better to consult a obs/gyn for the detailed study.
