there is no one answer for this.

I have game money and watch them buy beer or cigaretts, and also seen others buy food...

I have given food and watched it be eaten and I have also had it spit in a thrown in the garbage.

just depends on the person and what they really want.

~Each one is different. I have come across one homeless person, they were given a hamburger, outside of McDonalds, and he gave it to his dog. He wanted money for alcohol and drugs.
Not all are like this. I came across another homeless man who used to come into the store I worked at for years. One day I asked him WHY he was homeless, was there any way he could get off the streets? He showed me a picture of his deceased wife and found life unbearable since then.
Before I left that job, he had found a way to get an apartment and thanked me for having him question what he was doing himself.
No, you can't generalize. I feel sorry for them, no matter what the reason.~

Less hungry, would be my first guess.

Yes, some just want money for drugs and alcohol. Some just want money for food. Some of them don't even drink or do drugs, for that matter.

Don't generalize ... blanket statements are NEVER accurate.

Most times they are greatful however there are those that are trying to feed a drug or alcohol habit and these are the ones that prefer money. Its quite a dillema for them. As addicts if they do not get their fix they will virtually do anything to get it.

How would we know if we're the ones giving them something? Just because we give something to them doesn't mean we can read their minds.

Maybe you should ask someone who's homeless instead of people who are doing the giving.

Hahah...I like the phrasing.

I would hope they are happy about it...but sometimes its booze or drugs that puts them in their position. I keep a box of poptarts in my car to give to homeless people somtimes.

I guess some of them would feel grate-full but others may feel put down that people are giving them money or food instead of them earning it.

Generalising cause bigger problems.

Some are seriously looking for food, some might just be looking for drugs etc...
