My hard drive had started to make strange sounds and I figured it was about to go but what happened was a total surprise. As expected , it crashed. When I tried to reboot,Ireceived an error message"can't load DOS.This was followed by "Invalid VDISK,and then invalid signiture. I assumed a punk hacker had sabotaged my hard drive and because I expected it to go , it was no big loss.Oddly enough,I tried installing XP Pro on seven different disks from seven different manufacturers with no success. These were my used hard drives, but usuable..I thought.Either DOS could not or would not load or installation would faulter from VDISK or signitures or some obscure driver.Suddenly my CD/DVD rom and Floppy drive failed to recognize certain disks and under no circunstance was I allowed to WIPE, reformat or partition any of my disks.I'm now using a back up system with, coincidentally, one of the same disks that were unsuccessful before.Motherboards with a virus ?George Bush ? Any help will be great ...

By the way...the system is a little older but still works...or worked great. An IWILL motherboard with a VIA chipset and an AMD 1200 mhz processor and ample memory...if that helps.
